The castle
The Estate of Thoricourt Castle is a harmonious 18th-century classical group of buildings, which comprises a Tournaisian-style castle (built in 1768) with a main courtyard at the front flanked by entrance pavilions and carriage houses, and a landscaped park with Orangery and Chapel at the rear, as well as a quadrangular Farmstead.
In 1142 the hamlet was known as Thorincurth (Thor's farm) and belonged to the peerage of Silly. As early as 1081, the village was mentioned in a record under the name of Tourincourt.
At the beginning of the 14th century, the small seigniory belonged to the Lalaing family and passed to a certain Aubert du Broeucquet (or de Brunquet) around 1516.
It then passed by marriage to the 'du Fossey' family and then by inheritance to the 'de la Marlière' family. The latter were its lords for almost a hundred years.
It was in 1768 that the current castle was built by Charles-François de la Marlière on the site of an older castle of which no iconography has survived.
Where heritage and harmony blend to create unforgettable events.
Isabelle de la Marlière
Daughter and heiress of Charles-François de la Marlière, she married Zacharie-Vincent, viscount Obert de Quiévy in 1774. From this union was born Étienne, viscount Obert de Quiévy, who in 1811 married Joséphine Marin de Thieusies, the last of the name. To satisfy the demands of his future father-in-law, Viscount Obert agreed to replace his name 'de Quiévy' with 'de Thieusies', thus creating the family name “Obert de Thieusies”, by which the property is still known today.

The orangery
The orangery, located to the south of the castle, was built in 1830 by the aforementioned Étienne Obert de Thieusies (formerly 'de Quiévy').
The French landscape architect Achille Duchêne (1866 - 1947) was the last landscape architect to carry out modifications to the French garden opposite the orangery and the park at the beginning of the 20th century. These works were carried out on the initiative of Amaury Obert de Thieusies, grandson of Étienne Obert de Thieusies, who also had the roof of the castle rebuilt to give it its present appearance.
The castle, its adjacent buildings, the farm, the orangery and the chapel in the park were classified as historical monuments by the decree of July 7, 1976; they were subject to restoration works in the period 2007 - 2021.
